Drake Tax: review selected forms before creating a client PDF
Check form selection, return year and recipient scope before generating a PDF from Drake Tax’s Enhanced View/Print.

Applies to: Drake Tax desktop on Windows, Enhanced View/Print. Vendor documentation updated June 17, 2026. Confirm the installed annual tax-year edition and recipient requirements before applying this workflow.
The person receiving a return PDF may need a different set of documents from the internal reviewer. Before creating the file, define the recipient and purpose. Then inspect the selected forms instead of assuming the default set contains exactly what you intend to share.
Start with the evidence
Drake documents Enhanced View/Print with a form tree and tabs for categories such as federal, worksheets and state forms. Its print sets depend on configured printer settings. Selected forms can be checked and sent through Print → Print Selected Forms to PDF Document. The documented PDF options include password protection. Consult Drake Software: Viewing and Printing a Return.
A practical review checklist
- Confirm the taxpayer record and annual tax-year edition before opening View/Print. Keep a second return from becoming the accidental source.
- Write the recipient purpose in the internal task: review copy, client copy or another specifically approved package.
- Inspect the actual form selection and relevant print-set configuration. Remove ambiguity about worksheets or state documents before output.
- Create the PDF in the approved secure location. Open it and compare the first page, tax year, included forms and page count to the intended package.
- Follow the firm’s approved secure delivery process. Track filing acknowledgments separately; a PDF output is not your acknowledgment record.
A worked review example
Imagine an internal review needs federal forms plus a supporting worksheet, while the approved client package has a different scope. The preparer records the two intended packages and previews each actual output. If a worksheet is missing, the team corrects the selection before sharing rather than sending another unlabeled file later. The example is an original review-control pattern, not a universal requirement for every return.

Questions about this workflow
Does a named print set guarantee the right contents?
Review the configured selection and resulting PDF for this return and recipient. A familiar label is not a substitute for checking the output.
What if my annual edition looks different?
Confirm the edition and consult the corresponding Drake documentation before choosing a different control.
What should the review note contain?
The tax year, purpose, form scope, output version and reviewer. Keep taxpayer details and the file itself in the authorized secure system.

Useful answers
Drake FAQs
Does e-file eligibility confirm acceptance?
No. Read the actual acknowledgment for the relevant return and jurisdiction. Eligibility and acceptance are different stages.
Should I retransmit a pending return immediately?
First check its acknowledgments and exact message using Drake's current guidance. A pending transmission needs status review before another attempt.
Does every Drake product use the same instructions?
No. Check whether the article covers Drake Tax, Drake Tax Online or another Drake product, and verify the applicable tax year.
