Drake Tax EF message 3300: check acknowledgments before retransmitting
Separate e-file eligibility, pending transmission and acceptance when reviewing this Drake Tax message.

Applies to: Drake Tax and EF message 3300 in the pending-return context described by Drake. Verify the tax year and return type. This is independent educational guidance.
A pending return needs a status check before another transmission attempt. Treat the message as a prompt to establish what happened, who sent the return and what acknowledgment has arrived. Avoid making the next preparer reconstruct the sequence from memory.
The documented first check
Drake lists message 3300 for pending Forms 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120-S and 990. Its guidance says to check acknowledgments through EF → Transmit/Receive → Acks Only before trying to clear the message and retransmit an already pending return. Read the full message and the current Drake guidance on clearing EF messages.
Create a transmission timeline
Keep an internal record with the return reference, tax year, jurisdiction, transmission time, person responsible and latest acknowledgment status. Use an internal reference rather than copying taxpayer identifiers into a general task board.
Then ask three focused questions: Does the message refer to the same return we are discussing? Has the responsible person retrieved the latest acknowledgment? Is the next action based on that acknowledgment or simply on the absence of an expected screen change?
Separate the stages
Drake’s eligibility indication and an acceptance acknowledgment describe different stages. Do not tell a client a return is accepted merely because it appears ready to transmit. Record the actual status and escalate an unresolved discrepancy through the appropriate Drake support process.
An illustrative internal note is: “3300 observed; acknowledgment retrieval assigned to the transmission owner; next action pending status review.” That creates a clear handover without authorizing another filing attempt prematurely.
3300 questions
Does the message automatically mean rejection?
Not in the pending-return situation discussed here. Check the actual acknowledgment and full message.
Should I erase the message to make the return transmit?
First complete the acknowledgment review required by Drake’s guidance. Do not bypass status checks.
What if the office cannot reconcile the status?
Have the responsible preparer contact official Drake support with the relevant details through its appropriate support channel.
