Drake Tax preparer notes: turn a reminder into a clear review task
Distinguish a preparer reminder from a resolved issue or an electronic-filing control.

Applies to: Drake Tax desktop, U.S., 2025 return preparation on Windows; verify available options in the installed tax-year build.
A note saying check this is easy to overlook because it does not tell the next preparer what to do. Write the missing fact, why it matters and who should answer. Keep the note specific to the return and tax year instead of copying an old question indefinitely.
Drake documents NOTE and PAD screens for preparer notes and reminders. Its guidance distinguishes pop-up settings and notes in View/Print; a reminder should not be assumed to stop e-filing. Review the documented Hold EF control separately when a filing hold is needed. Drake: Adding a Preparer Note.
A focused review checklist
- Identify the tax year and the return area affected by the open question.
- State the fact that needs confirmation and the evidence already reviewed.
- Assign the next action and responsible reviewer without putting unnecessary private data in the note.
- Check the current Drake reminder settings if a pop-up is intended.
- Record how the question was resolved and separately verify the return's filing readiness.
A hypothetical example
For a hypothetical return, a reminder might say that a reported payment cannot yet be matched to the supplied acknowledgment. It should name the document needed and the reviewer, rather than implying that the payment did not occur. Closing the note means documenting the answer, not merely hiding the reminder.
A useful note supports professional review; it is not a substitute for the underlying records. If the installed year's behavior differs, use the relevant program help or vendor support rather than changing unrelated settings to make the reminder disappear.

Questions about this review
Does a note automatically block e-filing?
Do not assume so. Drake documents a separate Hold EF control.
Is hiding a reminder the same as resolving it?
No. Preserve the resolution and supporting evidence.
Should notes be carried forward unchanged?
Review relevance, tax year and unresolved facts before reusing them.

Drake FAQs
Does e-file eligibility confirm acceptance?
No. Read the actual acknowledgment for the relevant return and jurisdiction. Eligibility and acceptance are different stages.
Should I retransmit a pending return immediately?
First check its acknowledgments and exact message using Drake's current guidance. A pending transmission needs status review before another attempt.
Does every Drake product use the same instructions?
No. Check whether the article covers Drake Tax, Drake Tax Online or another Drake product, and verify the applicable tax year.
