QuickBooks Online audit log: investigate the change before correcting it
Use the activity trail to frame a specific review question without assuming every change was a manual edit.

Applies to: QuickBooks Online Canada in a supported web browser; account activity review, not QuickBooks Desktop instructions.
When an amount changes, immediately editing it again can make the investigation harder. First define what is different and which transaction is involved. Use the native audit-log guidance for your region and authorized access, then connect the activity with the supporting documents.
Intuit documents that QuickBooks Online's audit log records financial and account activities, including changes and user activity. It can help locate a deleted transaction. The log is evidence of activity; it does not by itself decide the correct accounting treatment. Intuit: Use the audit log in QuickBooks Online.
A focused review checklist
- Identify the company, affected transaction, expected amount and observed difference.
- Narrow the review to a relevant period and retain the context of the activity.
- Compare the recorded change with the invoice, payment or approved adjustment.
- Ask the responsible person about the event without treating a log label as proof of misconduct.
- Obtain approval for the correction and preserve a reference to the original issue.
A hypothetical example
A hypothetical invoice now shows a different amount from the approved customer document. A useful review records both versions, checks the activity history and asks whether an authorized change explains the difference. Re-entering the original amount before that review might reverse a valid correction.
Do not post customer details or screenshots containing financial records in public support channels. Share a narrow, redacted description when seeking help, and keep the detailed evidence in the company's approved workspace.

Who should change a shared hosting setup?
The person responsible for the server or hosting provider should review changes affecting other users. Record the current setup before making approved changes.
