QuickBooks Online errors 102 and 105: check the bank connection methodically
Use a bounded bank-connection review for errors 102 and 105, with evidence to carry into a support request.

Applies to: QuickBooks Online, United States, browser version. Intuit guidance updated August 4, 2026, checked October 3. This does not describe Desktop or Self-Employed menus.
A bank-feed connection error interrupts the download workflow, but it does not explain every missing transaction. First record the exact code and the last successful update. That gives the next reviewer a useful starting point without changing the account configuration prematurely.
Start with the evidence
Intuit says errors 102 and 105 mean QuickBooks cannot connect to the bank. In QuickBooks Online, its manual update path is All apps → Accounting → Bank transactions → Update. It also recommends checking the bank website for sign-in problems, notices and account access. If the error remains, the guidance allows time before another attempt; bank-side problems can take 24 hours or more to resolve. See Intuit: Fix bank error 102 or 105.
A practical review checklist
- Record the error text, affected institution, last successful download and current time. Keep screenshots free of full account identifiers.
- Check the bank’s own site through a known address. Read account notices and confirm access to transaction history.
- Use the documented Online Update control, then record the result. If it still fails, follow Intuit’s waiting guidance instead of repeatedly reconnecting.
- Keep manual-import decisions separate from connection troubleshooting. Document any imported date range so restored downloads can be checked for overlap.
- If the problem persists, provide support with the code, bank, timestamps and completed checks. Do not describe a widespread outage unless the provider confirms one.
A worked review example
Suppose an account last downloaded on Monday and shows 105 on Tuesday. The reviewer finds a bank notice requiring attention, records it privately and follows the bank’s instructions. The next update result is recorded separately. If no notice exists and the error continues, the record still helps support distinguish an access issue from missing transaction dates. No particular cause or recovery time is assumed.

Questions about this workflow
Do these codes prove my password is wrong?
No. They report a connection problem. Use the documented checks rather than treating the code alone as a password diagnosis.
Should I disconnect the bank immediately?
The initial review above does not require disconnection. Consider consequential account changes only after the relevant vendor guidance and your accounting controls are reviewed.
What should I compare after downloads resume?
Compare the last confirmed import date with the new transactions and any manual imports before accepting overlapping entries.

QuickBooks FAQs
Can I use a Desktop error guide for QuickBooks Online?
Only when the guide explicitly covers that product. First identify whether you use Desktop or Online and record the exact message.
Does a connection error prove a company file is damaged?
An error message alone is not enough to establish file damage. Identify the affected task and follow the relevant vendor diagnostic guidance.
Who should change a shared hosting setup?
The person responsible for the server or hosting provider should review changes affecting other users. Record the current setup before making approved changes.
