Quicken CC-800: map each reconnected account to its existing record
When reviewing CC-800, prepare a clear account map so a reconnect uses the intended existing register and the result can be checked.

Applies to: Quicken Classic for Windows, United States edition, account-update error CC-800. Vendor guidance covers Classic Business, Deluxe, Premier and Starter; checked October 5, 2026. Not instructions for Simplifi or the Mac interface.
Reconnecting an account is easier to review when the destination is clear. Before following a CC-800 workflow, write down which existing Quicken register belongs to each account involved. That small preparation step gives you a way to check the reconnect choices instead of relying on memory.
Check that the guidance fits
Quicken documents CC-800 after an account was deactivated or deleted and a backup was subsequently restored. Its guidance first deactivates affected accounts through Tools, Account List and Online Services, including hidden accounts where relevant. It then uses Tools, Add Account to reconnect. Existing records should be selected with Link to existing account; adding a new record is for accounts not already tracked. See Quicken’s official CC-800 guidance.
Record whether that sequence describes your situation. If you did not restore a file, say so in your support notes rather than rewriting your history to fit an article. This guide does not establish the cause of an individual error or promise that reconnecting will resolve it.
Prepare the mapping before changing anything
Preserve a dated backup through your established backup process. Keep a brief private record of the current file and the accounts affected. The following checklist is an organizational control, separate from the vendor’s technical steps.
- Identify the data file you intend to work in and the last date its downloaded transactions were checked.
- List each affected institution and the register name currently used for its account. Use only a masked identifier when necessary.
- Note whether multiple accounts have similar names, such as two checking accounts or a personal and business card.
- Write the intended mapping before reconnecting. If you cannot distinguish the destinations, stop and obtain the missing evidence.
- Keep credentials inside the authorized bank or product authentication flow; they do not belong in this mapping note.
A two-account example
Imagine a file with “Operating checking” and “Reserve checking.” Both belong to the same bank, and their display names in the bank connection are almost identical. The owner compares the masked identifiers with a trusted account record, then writes two separate mapping lines.
During the vendor workflow, the owner can now compare each displayed choice against that note. If a destination is missing or the identifiers disagree, that is a specific unresolved question. Creating another similarly named register would not explain the discrepancy. The example describes a review method, not a tested recovery result.
Check the outcome and record the limit
After the documented process, inspect the affected register names, the resulting download status and the transaction period against your starting record. Preserve any discrepancy for support before accepting unfamiliar entries. Quicken directs users to its support team if CC-800 persists after the stated steps. The vendor article is the technical reference for that escalation.
If these records feed a business bookkeeping handover, our bookkeeping and accounting service can be discussed with an agreed scope. Product support and accounting review remain separate responsibilities.
Questions about CC-800 preparation
Does this diagnose every CC-800 occurrence?
No. Record the actual sequence of events and use the vendor guidance only where it applies.
What if two accounts look identical?
Resolve their identities using trusted, privately held records before selecting a destination.
What makes a useful support handover?
Include the edition, error text, timing, restore history, affected accounts and observed outcome. Remove credentials and full account identifiers.

Useful answers
Quicken FAQs
Are Windows and Mac error codes interchangeable?
Do not assume so. Identify the operating system and exact task, such as adding an account or updating an existing one.
What should I record before contacting support?
Note the code, time, affected institution, product version and whether the problem affects one account or several. Remove personal details from screenshots.
Should I share my bank login in the contact form?
No. Describe the issue without credentials or account numbers. Bank authentication should occur only in the appropriate authorized product flow.
