Sage Accounting Canada: date the receivables snapshot before comparing balances
Keep the report date and credit-note context with an aging export so comparisons use the same point in time.

Applies to: Sage Accounting Canada in a supported web browser; not Sage 50.
Two receivables reports can show different balances without either being broken. The first question is whether they describe the same date. Keep the chosen cutoff, export time and report detail together before comparing a customer balance with the trial balance or a later collection record.
Sage documents that this report groups balances by transaction date and supports a chosen reporting date. A retrospective report excludes later payments, so an invoice paid afterward can still appear outstanding at the earlier cutoff. Sage Canada: Accounts Receivable Aging report.
A focused review checklist
- Confirm Sage Accounting Canada and select the report's intended cutoff date.
- Retain whether the output is detailed or summarized and how it was sorted.
- Separate invoice age from the contractual due date when planning follow-up.
- Review credit notes and subsequent payments using their actual dates.
- Explain each difference before changing an invoice or contacting the customer.
A hypothetical example
A hypothetical invoice is outstanding at September 30 and paid October 3. A September 30 snapshot can properly show it open even when today's customer record shows payment. Record the later receipt as an explanation rather than changing the earlier report to make it look current.
An aging column is a prompt for review, not proof that a customer refuses to pay. Check disputes, credits and payment allocation before choosing a collection action. Use the existing customer record and an approved communication process, with a clear explanation of the balance being discussed.

Questions about this review

Yes, when the payment occurred after the chosen cutoff.
Are these Sage 50 steps?
